Waiting in Toronto

So, we decided to blog about this trip for our memory and for family and friends.

Well, our flight leaves in 55 minutes and we are excited. We had a scare earlier this afternoon when mistakenly thought that it took a full three hours to get to Kansas City from Joplin. Then I missed the hwy 71 exit and drove very fast to get back to the highway. I was mad at myself for running late and I told Amy that we might miss our flight and have to fly standby and we might not get to sit by each other. That didn't go over too well. Luckily, we saw a mileage sign that said:

Kansas City - 146

I asked Amy to get the calculator out and we did a little math. 146 miles divided by 79 miles per hour times 60. We were only 110 minutes away. Of course, we were 110 minutes away from Kansas City Proper, the airport is a good 15 miles to the north. But we got to the airport with about 45 minutes to spare. For the life of me I couldn't find the Air Canada check-in desk. After Amy waited in a huge U.S. Airways line, I discovered that the United Airlines counter handled Air Canada. Check-in took 5 minutes, security took 2 minutes, then we checked for free wifi, they had it, then I checked to see what tube connections we needed to make once we got to London. We boarded next-to-last because we got 2nd row seats. I planned it so that we get the exact same seats over and back. There was a mix-up with someones boarding pass, it was given to the wrong person... same starting letter of the first name. A security worker got an ear-full from the United employee, afterall, she said "this is our only international flight, and we need to get it right." It was interesting. The flight was cool, free drinks and spirits because of new-years... I had Apple Juice, Amy had Coke. We brought beef jerky, cashews, and peanut-butter crackers with us so we didn't have to pay $2/ea for snacks on the plane. The downside to saving money this way is we had to declare our "beef/nuts/dairy" on the customs sheet. We did get asked about it.

Anyway, we are at the Toronto airport waiting to board. Amy is getting nervous because they have been doing "maintenance" on the plane, probably de-icing since it's 15 degrees F.

I couldn't find either of the two books that I wanted to read so I guess I'll be doing computer stuff or watching whatever movies Air Canada decides to show. Once we hit dry land in London, we will be immediately catching the tube to our Hotel and then we are off to see London through it's own Eye. Then to Big Ben/Parliament before we get a bite to eat and then hit the sack early. So, I will blog sometime tomorrow.
